We live in a society where many people are so negative about everything. The workplace, television, magazines and even many of our children’s cartoons are just plain horrible portrayals of how most live their lives. With so many issues and hurts that arise in every day life, many resort to being cynical and skeptical almost as a form of protection.
If we’re not careful, everything that we say could have the connotation of negativity. But instead of many people seeing themselves as negative, and their chatter as being hurtful, it is often suggested that in some odd way that it is helpful… implying that they are just plainly being realistic or “real”.
Okay, I agree that we shouldn’t bury our head in the sand to anything. But when we always see the glass as half empty, is that realism?
Is God “realistic” when he looks at you and I? Yes, Yes, and Yes ! From the first man and woman, He has seen sin and rebellion in every form. Man has failed over and over through all the centuries. Did that stop God from continuing His blessings? Did it stop Him from having a wonderful plan for each of our lives – even when we fail to live up to His Word? Did it stop Him from sending his Son to redeem each of us even when so many will never accept the gift? NO!
God is not negative, cynical or skeptical and scripture tells us:
” For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16NIV)
I take it from that we should join God in viewing people and situations with positive hope and encouragement. Therefore, whenever we have the choice to be like many who are always negative, let’s not be so “real”.
We must “always” respond to others in and with the upmost Truth…there is no doubt about that….. we just need to keep in mind Matthew 7:12 ESV… “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them…….”
