For many of us, the first thing we want to do when someone hurts us is lash out at them. Our human nature at times craves revenge, or at the least calculated indifference. We justify it, by many times saying that they deserve a taste of what was dished out. Yes, we reason.
However, the kind of love God places in a heart goes against this self-protective mindset. When He moves in and dwells in our hearts, forgiveness takes place. It may take years, but forgiveness will eventually come.
What does it mean to say that love “covers a multitude of sins”? Simply that the God type of love keeps on loving in the face of rejection, hatred, and persecution. It doesn’t excuse the wrong actions of the other person, but loves in spite of it all.
If you have struggled with the act of forgiveness, as many of us have at one time or another. We must allow God’s supernatural love to change us from the inside out. We will totally be surprised at the person that we eventually become.
Above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
