There are some days we can be “beside ourselves”. Believing that our faith is what brought us through difficult times. “Isn’t “my” faith wonderful?”, we say to ourselves. “I sure am good to have this kind of faith”. But then reality sets in, and we are quickly brought back to earth.
Our being good has nothing to do with our having faith. We can’t earn it; we can only borrow it. Our faith is a loan to us from God. It’s ours to cultivate, grow and enjoy, but it is His seed, not ours, and God gave it to us out of love, not as a reward for anything that we have done or not done in our lives.
We are sinners, will always be sinners, but God has saved us through the gift of faith that we have in His Son, Jesus Christ.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
