Compassion

Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things. Luke 10:41

In this particular passage of scripture, we see so much compassion from Jesus when Martha asked Him to send Mary back to her work. He understood that she was worried about many details involving her special house guest.

Jesus’ words demonstrated how much He cared for her, and also acknowledged how much she was caught up in providing Him a good meal, not simply throwing something together. That meal was the way Martha chose to show her love to Jesus.

Sometimes a kind word of understanding is all we need when we feel overwhelmed. It doesn’t always change the circumstances, but we feel better about the task at hand when someone acknowledges them. May we all show the same compassion to others who work so hard on our behalf.

A simple “thank you” to the grocery store clerk, or a glass of tea to the person who mows the lawn, could mean the world to them.
