A merry heart does good, like medicine. Proverbs 17:22
Every day we hear more and more about health, nutrition, and wellness. In fact, I hear so many conflicting opinions that it sometimes makes my head spin. How about yours? Sometimes it hard to distinguish between true facts and someone just trying to get sales for a product.
According to the Bible, our bodies are temples of Holy Spirit, and we have a special obligation to care for our temples. We need adequate rest and proper nutrition, and do everything possible to provide for our physical well-being.
One way to accomplish this is to have a “merry heart”.
There is a definite relationship between emotional contentment and good physical health. A pleasant and cheerful disposition on life does have great value, but that doesn’t just happen. True happiness and joy result from a right relationship with God and our brothers and sisters in Christ. Galatians 5:22(But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness) tells us that joy is a result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives, and we must live under His work in our lives, and we must live under His control to experience it too.
We can all be happy because our sin has been forgiven and we have been accepted by God through personal faith in Christ. Then, as we walk in obedience to His Word, He gives us the peace and the joy of His presence. Walk in joy, it’s good medicine for a healthy heart!
