“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” James 1:22
“But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.” James 1:25
Our road map (God’s Holy Word) is useful only when we listen to it and take action based on it.
It’s a very unwise traveler who asks for directions and then drives off in the wrong direction. Why bother to ask if we won’t listen? Or why listen if we have no intention of obeying? Why read about loving our neighbor and then mistreat them? Why study feeding the (literal) hungry, if we only intend on turning up our noses at them, and say that they just aren’t trying hard enough to succeed?
Yes, there are times that we will fall short, and veer off in the wrong direction. But isn’t it wonderful to know that God is faithful in getting us back on the right road, which will lead us safely home.
Prayer: Lord, show me my errors and teach me the proper way. Let me be a shining example of You through me in my daily walk as I encounter others. Amen.
