These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
We were never promised an easy life as disciples of Christ. In fact, Jesus warned the disciples that the path lying before them would be both steep and dangerous. During the course of bringing His Word to the world, they would become the very first martyrs of the Church. Hounded and persecuted to death on every possible side. Yet still, Jesus urged them to be happy in this life.
Yes, although the world would treat them wickedly, He had overcome the world, and His salvation was forever theirs. The power of the world is no match for Jesus, and because of His sacrifice, all it can do to us is kill the body and free the soul for eternal life with Him.
The road that we travel may at times seem steep, dangerous, and disheartening. Be encouraged and don’t quit. We aren’t experiencing anything that our Savior didn’t experience, He was victorious and we too will be victorious.
