I’ve shut the door on Yesterday,
It’s sorrows and mistakes.
I’ve locked within its gloomy walls
Past failures and heartaches.

And now I throw the key away,
To seek another room,
And furnish it with hope and smiles
And every springtime bloom.

No thought shall enter this Abode
That has a hint of pain;
And envy, malice and distrust
Shall never entrance gain.

I’ve shut the door on Yesterday
And thrown the key away –
Tomorrow holds no fear for me
Since I have found Today.

10 Guidelines-Effective Immediately

Effective immediately, please be aware that there are changes YOU need to make in YOUR life. These changes need to be completed in order that I may fulfill My promises to you to grant you peace, joy and happiness in this life. I apologize for any inconvenience, but after all that I am doing, this seems very little to ask of you. Please, follow these 10 guidelines.

1. QUIT WORRYING: Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way?

2. PUT IT ON THE LIST: Something needs to be done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can’t help you until you turn it over to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all… God. I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.

3. TRUST ME: Once you’ve given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on My list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

4. LEAVE IT ALONE: Don’t wake up one morning and say, “Well, I’m feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here.” Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It’s simple. You gave Me your burdens and I’m taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my peace. Don’t you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.

5. TALK TO ME: I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I’m in control. But there’s one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don’t forget to talk to Me – OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

6. HAVE FAITH: I see a lot of things from up here that you can’t see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I’m doing. Trust Me; you wouldn’t want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?

7. SHARE: You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who haven’t heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith with those who have none.

8. BE PATIENT: I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

9. BE KIND: Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences.

10. LOVE YOURSELF: As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by me for one reason only — to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to me. Don’t ever forget……

You Will Get There

Nothing will stop God’s plan or frustrate His purpose for our lives. Not one thing ever takes Him by surprise concerning us. He knows the future and is already there. He knows where He is leading our lives and knows just how to get us there! Be encouraged!

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?”
Jeremiah 32:27

Colored Glasses

We don’t need to be an optometrist to know that God’s eyes are not the same as ours.  They witnessed the creation of the world.  They watched us as we were formed in our mother’s womb.  They looked into the future, and saw the beginning and the end.

That’s where faith comes in.  To begin to see things through God’s eyes, we first have to grow to trust His heart.  Like any relationship, trust builds over time.  But it’s put to the test when we believe God loves us, yet circumstances seem to scream the exact opposite.   That’s when we need to remember we don’t have the ability to see every situation through God-colored glasses.  We can only see the present and the past, while God can look ahead to the future.

All I have seen teaches me to trust our Creator for all I have not seen…….

“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:1

Forgiven Past: Beautiful Future

“I, yes I, am the Lord, and there is no other Savior. First I predicted your rescue, then I saved you and proclaimed it to the world. No foreign god has ever done this. You are witnesses that I am the only God,” says the Lord. “From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done.” This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel” Isaiah 43:11-14 NLT

“I–yes, I alone–will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.”
Isaiah 43:25 NLT

Yesterday is gone, which means that we all have a past. We smile over some memories. While some of the recollections remind us of past hurts and pain. Some of us have suffered abandonment, abuse, betrayal, tragedy, and if we aren’t careful we could easily harbor hurt and anger.

There are times when we would love to just go back and change some of the not-so-good moments. Yet, we can’t change one thing that has happened. We can however change how we view it. They were lessons either good or bad. And with prayer, we all gain valuable lessons, find healing, and smile at the good times.

One bible account that I’m pretty sure we are all aware of is concerning the Samaritan woman, found in John 4. Not solely based on the account of her numerous relationships, but the grace and mercy extended to her and how it also relates to us, who have also been repeat offenders of sin in our lives. When she met Jesus near a well at midafternoon, she was utterly surprised that He already knew everything about her.

Despite her ugly past, He offered her a beautiful future. I’m sure that many in her community had counted her as worthless. And she may have felt the same way on occasion, based on her experiences. Yet, as far as Jesus was concerned, the woman with no apparent future is offered a promising future, even with her string of failures. Jesus saw her present heart desires, and that made her past irrelevant.

Jesus can redeem our past, no matter what we have done: failures, addictions, poor decisions, multiple relationships, lies, gossip just to name a few. It doesn’t matter whether we are the offended or the offender. Nope! We may in fact be the guilty who messed up, or we were wounded by someone else. We can all be redeemed. Experiencing healing from the hurt, and released into a beautiful future.

Pray about everything. Yes, even the failures we may make today. If you are still breathing, we have been given the opportunity to begin again right at this moment. And Jesus alone can and will provide all the hope that we need for tomorrow, according to His will, that will honor Him and bring Him glory.

In Need of Answers…

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy. Ecclesiastes 2:26

Recently, my dad had major surgery. The family was thankful for the skilled surgeons. Yet, we give ALL praise to God that it was successful, and that he is now recovering and healing.

However, as with any surgery, we all knew that prayer, the Hand of God, wisdom, and knowledge working together would give dad the best chance of success.

Reflecting on the events, when we are faced with any surgery, we want the surgeon to know every detail of the operation-and all of the facts pertaining to the procedure.

We also want them to know if the operation is wise. Would another treatment be better suited for us? And we should also ask ourselves are we emotionally, physically, and spiritually fit for the operation, or will it bring us more problems than it will solve? In other words, we want a surgeon who is both technically and ethically sound. Its only when we find a surgeon like that , when we have the best chance of experiencing the joy of healing.

No one is perfect, but when we are in need of professional services of any kind, we must first ask the Lord to order and guide our choices. He alone has all the answers.

Spring Board

This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Philippians 3:13

I compare sitting on my lawn and watching the grass grow, very similar to living in my past. While we cannot deny our past, we can’t change it, so why spend so much time lamenting over them?

Our past experiences are opportunities that we can use as springboards for our future. We should resist the temptation to turn our pasts into great big lounge chairs, where we pine away the “shoulda, woulda, coulda” done it this way or that way.

We should leave whatever we did or didn’t do in the burial ground of yesterday. Focus on all of the things that we did right, the times when we were obedient and listened to the voice of God and followed His lead. Build from the mistakes, pray, meditate, and move forward. Using what we’ve learned to help others. Today is a NEW beginning.
